Spring Pictures This Tuesday, Feb. 19
  • Spring pictures, including class and individual, are scheduled for this Tuesday, Feb. 19. 
  • If you want a class picture, these are paid for in advance. Please place your payment in the envelope previously sent home in student folders.
  • You will receive picture proofs and an order form for individual pictures two-to-three weeks after Picture Day. They may also be purchased online.
  • Students may be out-of-dress code for Picture Day. Please be sure that clothes are school appropriate (no spaghetti straps, too-short dresses or shorts, athletic shorts, ripped jeans, pajamas or inappropriate logos).
 
“Feast for 5th Fundraising This Wednesday, Feb. 20, at Olivella’s!
  • Please join us for our “Feast for 5th” Fundraising dinner date at Olivella’s at 6333 Camp Bowie Blvd., from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. this Wednesday, Feb. 20.
  • 15% of the proceeds on dine-in, alcohol and take-out orders will be donated to help RH 5th grade fundraising.

RHE Spirit Shop Pop-Up Sale This Thursday, Feb. 21
From 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. this Thursday, Feb. 21, in the foyer, we are selling all remaining 2018-19 spirit and uniform wear for all the students who have out-grown their clothing or worn them out.

5th Grade Parents & Students: You’re Invited to a Monnig Middle School Meet and Greet This Thursday, Feb. 21
Monnig Principal Dr. Kirkpatrick and PTA President Melissa Newman invite all interested 5th grade parents and students to a special Meet and Greet from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. this Thursday, Feb. 21, in the Monnig library.
  • This is your chance to meet Principal Kirkpatrick, 6th grade teachers, current students and parents and ask any questions you may have. We know that middle school can be daunting.
  • There are many great former RH families who are now at Monnig who would love to meet you and discuss their experiences at Monnig. Don’t miss this special opportunity!

Vote on FWISD’s Proposed School Calendar for Next Year by This Friday, Feb. 22!
FWISD is seeking stakeholder feedback on options for the 2019-20 school calendar. 
  • Through a survey, students, parents and employees are being asked to select one of two calendar options for the 2019-2020 school year. 
  • The calendar options were developed utilizing the flexibility of school minutes. This flexibility has allowed the District to offer calendar options that address many of our needs as a District and community.

Students Who Bring a Ream of Copy Paper by This Friday, Feb. 22, Get an Out-of-Dress Code Day on Tuesday, Feb. 26!
  • Your student may have an out-of-dress code day on Tuesday, Feb. 26, if he/she brings a ream of copy paper this week no later than this Friday, Feb. 22.
  • The class who brings the most reams of copy paper will receive a pizza party.

Barnes & Noble Book Fair and Family Reading Day is This Saturday, Feb. 23
Barnes & Noble Book Fair and Family Reading Day is this Saturday, Feb. 23, from 9 a.m. to close. 
  • There will be story times and music performed by our choir in the store!
  • The location is 4801 Overton Ridge Blvd. at the corner of Hulen and Overton Ridge.
  • We will receive a percentage of purchases, including items from the café. Just be sure to mention that you are there for the Ridglea Hills Book Fair.
  • Stop by for celebrity readers, buy a book from your teacher’s wish list and pick out some things for yourself! A portion of the proceeds go back to our Ridglea Hills library so Ms. Rick can buy more books for your students to read!

We Still Need Fine Arts Day (FAD) Volunteers
Get ready for a fun day! Friday, March 1, is Fine eARTh day at Ridglea Hills! After all, the earth without ART is just EH! 
  • We still need a few volunteers for FAD. If you’re interested, please email Michelle Henderson directly at michellehenderson@sbcglobal.net.
  • If you are a new RH parent then THIS is the day you want to be here for! It’s magical, and you will fall in love with this school and community. 
  • To ensure crowd control and student safety, please note that only preapproved volunteers with completed background checks will be allowed in the building during FAD.
  • Every student will have an entire day of the arts! From painting to dance to sewing to music and much, much more! 
  • We will be joined by over 40 local artists and musicians, and we are planning a SPECTACULAR finish to the day; you’re going to love it!

Science Fair Scheduled for Thursday, March 7
The Ridglea Hills Science Fair will take place on Thursday, March 7 — two months earlier than last year! The reason for this is that the District Science Fair this year will be March 26-28. 
  • This year, the Science Fair is required for 5th grade students, but all students in grades 2-4 are also encouraged to participate and will earn extra credit for doing so. (Students in Pre-K through 1st grade can display a project, but the entry will not be judged.) 
  • Students will choose a topic for the science fair project and then share what they learn with the RH community by preparing a display board.
  • The process of developing a science fair project involves asking questions, making predictions, drawing conclusions and presenting findings. The experience of working through this process provides students with many rich opportunities for learning. 
  • Students may participate individually or submit a group project (maximum group size = five students).
  • Teachers at each grade level are offering extra credit for participation.
  • The first-place winners from 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade will advance to the District Science Fair on March 26-28.
  • We will have a parent information session this Tuesday, Feb. 19, starting at 3:15 p.m. in Mrs. Poe’s classroom in the 5th grade hallway. At that time, we will review pointers for project development and distribute trifold poster boards to interested students. If you are unable to attend the workshop, please make arrangements to pick up a trifold poster board by following the instructions on the PTA website through the link below.

Order Your 2018-19 Yearbook By Friday, March 8
The deadline to order your 2018-19 yearbook is coming up soon on Friday, March 8!            (Please use the folders for grade or event-specific photos.) 
Pre-K Round Up at Ridglea Hills Elementary Scheduled for Thursday, March 21
Pre-K Round Up and information session for Ridglea Hills Elementary for interested parents will be from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 21, in the auditorium.

  • The district will host their big Pre-K Round Up on Saturday, April 6, at the William M. McDonald YMCA near Mitchell Boulevard. 
  • Currently, Pre-K is planned to start at 7:50 a.m. and end at 2:15 p.m., and after-school care by the YMCA will again be available on campus until 6 p.m. for those parents who need it.
  • Parents can register online starting Monday, April 1, through Friday, April 26.
  • Registrations will be processed through the Early Childhood Department by Friday, May 10, with letters going home notifying parents on Monday, May 13.
 
Save the Date for RH Parent Party and Auction on Saturday, March 30!
Mark your calendars and line up your babysitters for the RH Parent Party and Auction from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. and the after-party from 10 p.m. to midnight on Saturday, March 30, at Ridglea Theater.  
  • The theme will be 80s so get your costumes ready!
  • Dinner will be catered by Pulido’s. 
  • There will be music provided by a DJ for the party and karaoke at the after-party.
  • Tickets for the party will be $25 each in advance and $30 at the door; tickets for the after-party will be $10 each.
  • Invitations will be coming home in student folders soon. Keep a look out! 
  • The auction committee needs your help with getting donations for both the silent and live auctions. Please reach out to your favorite places for items we can include.

We have kicked off the Talent Show – “A Night In Hollywood!” with our first parent/sponsor registration meetings. The theme is old Hollywood. Registration is still going on now. Please note that all registration packets are due no later than Friday, March 8.
  • There are usually a few popular songs that are in high demand. Song choices must be registered and approved first come, first serve.

Free Field Hockey Clinic for RH Girls in Kindergarten through 5th Grade on Friday, March 29; Sign Up Feb. 1-28
  • There will be a free field hockey clinic for RH girls in Kindergarten through 5th grade from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, March 29, at the RH athletic fields by the track.
  • Girls should come dressed to play in athletic wear, tennis shoes or cleats and shin guards (if available) with a water bottle.
