Fine Arts Day Is This Friday, March 1!
Get ready for a fun day! Friday, March 1, is Fine eARTh day at Ridglea Hills! After all, the earth without ART is just EH!
  • We encourage everyone to look around out front and inside the school the morning of FAD before the 7:50 a.m. bell rings. At 7:50 a.m. students need to be in their classrooms.
  • For the safety of all our students, only pre-registered volunteers with completed background checks may be in the building after 7:50 a.m. on FAD. Parents, visitors and younger/older siblings are not allowed to shadow their students or stop in to see them during the day.
  • Every student will have an entire day of the arts! From painting to dance to sewing to music and much, much more!
  • We will be joined by over 40 local artists and musicians, and we are planning a SPECTACULAR finish to the day; our students are going to love it!
  • All students will need a sack lunch as they will all eat in their classrooms that day.
  • If you ordered a shirt, it will go home this week with your child. If you are a volunteer who receives a free shirt, you will have the opportunity to pick it up after school on Wednesday, Feb. 27, or Thursday, Feb. 28, from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Thank you to all our wonderful volunteers! Volunteer emails will go out tomorrow with more detailed information.

5th Grader Casting Call for Emcees and Stage Crew for “A Night In Hollywood” Talent Show; Entry, Sponsor and Permissions Forms Due Week of March 4
As young leaders in our school, our 5th grade students help bring the show to life through characterized emcees introducing the acts and building the story. We also need another team of 5th graders to make up the stage crew to assist with the flow of the show, helping acts enter and exit as well as handling their props and costumes.
  • Emcee and stage crew member auditions are scheduled for the week of March 4 in the auditorium. Keep a look out for exact days and times to be communicated soon.

Emcees – To prepare for auditions, get into character!
  • Choose a famous Hollywood character. This can be an actor/actress, singer, comedian or famous TV show host.
  • Next write a 30-45-second act/speech introducing someone famous as if they were to appear on stage.

Stage Crew – Be prepared to let us know about you and why you would be perfect as a stage crew member.

  • Entry, sponsor and permission forms are due the week of March 4, turned into the Talent Show folder in the office.
  • For more information, please access the registration packet available on the RHPTA website under Student Activities/Talent Show. Click the following link to access: http://www.rhpta.com/student-clubs/talent-show

Science Fair Scheduled for Next Thursday, March 7
The Ridglea Hills Science Fair will take place next Thursday, March 7 — two months earlier than last year! The reason for this is that the District Science Fair this year will be March 26-28.
  • This year, the Science Fair is required for 5th grade students, but all students in grades 2-4 are also encouraged to participate and will earn extra credit for doing so. (Students in Pre-K through 1st grade can display a project, but the entry will not be judged.)
  • Students need to choose a topic for the science fair project and then share what they learn with the RH community by preparing a display board.
  • The process of developing a science fair project involves asking questions, making predictions, drawing conclusions and presenting findings. The experience of working through this process provides students with many rich opportunities for learning.
  • Students may participate individually or submit a group project (maximum group size = five students).
  • Teachers at each grade level are offering extra credit for participation.
  • The first-place winners from 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade will advance to the District Science Fair on March 26-28.
  • If you were unable to attend the recent workshop, please make arrangements to pick up a trifold poster board by following the instructions on the PTA website through the link below.
  • You can download detailed information, rubrics, project requirements and a student guide on our RHPTA website at http://www.rhpta.com/academic-fairs
