Special Message from FWISD:
FWISD Students, Parents and Employees Should “Know the Plan” for Cold Weather

FWISD is taking extra precautions in response to one of the coldest weather days so far this year. Temperatures will fall into the teens and low 20s overnight, and wind chills are expected to range between 0 and 10 degrees early Monday morning. The District urges students and families as well as employees to “Know the Plan.”

Most importantly, everyone should be sure to bundle up, dressing in layers and with extra protection for extremities.

Also:
  • Transportation workers will report to work early on Monday in order to ensure the buses are ready to roll and their interiors are “warmed up” for young passengers.
  • Custodial staff are also coming in early to ensure campus heating systems are on and buildings are warm.
  • Schools will open before the usual time and students will be permitted to come inside early and keep warm.
  • Campus principals will be at the school earlier than usual to monitor student and staff safety.
  • FWISD will have no outdoor recess time on Monday.

All FWISD March 4 outdoor athletic events have been canceled or rescheduled.
  • Middle school track is rescheduled for Wednesday with all times the same.
  • Junior Varsity softball is canceled and will not be rescheduled.

FAD was FAB!
Just as the earth without art wouldn’t be the same neither would Ridglea Hills without Fine Arts Day!
  • HUGE thanks to our incredibly talented and hard-working FAD Committee of Melinda Blackerby, Jennifer Sheffield, Jenn Nevitt, Meredith Rowsey and Michelle Henderson, their spouses and their children.
  • Thank you to every volunteer who helped make this day so special, including those who set up in advance and those who worked it by assisting the artists, teachers, staff and students.
  • Thanks to all of our amazing artists, including our very own RHE alumni from Monnig Middle and Arlington Heights, for sharing their talents with our students.
  • The day definitely lived up to its reputation of being the most magical of the year! #RHEFAD19

5th Grader Casting Call for Emcees and Stage Crew for “A Night In Hollywood” Talent Show; Entry, Sponsor and Permissions Forms Due This Week
As young leaders in our school, our 5th grade students help bring the show to life through characterized emcees introducing the acts and building the story. We also need another team of 5th graders to make up the stage crew to assist with the flow of the show, helping acts enter and exit as well as handling their props and costumes.
  • Emcee and stage crew member auditions are scheduled for 2 p.m. this Thursday, March 7, and Friday, March 8, in the auditorium.

Emcees – To prepare for auditions, get into character!
  • Choose a famous Hollywood character. This can be an actor/actress, singer, comedian or famous TV show host.
  • Next write a 30-45-second act/speech introducing someone famous as if they were to appear on stage.

Stage Crew – Be prepared to let us know about you and why you would be perfect as a stage crew member.

  • Entry, sponsor and permission forms are due this week, turned into the Talent Show folder in the office.
  • For more information, please access the registration packet available on the RHPTA website under Student Activities/Talent Show. Click the following link to access: http://www.rhpta.com/student-clubs/talent-show
  • Registration forms are also available in the office and in the main hallway by the office.

Science Fair This Thursday, March 7
The Ridglea Hills Science Fair will take place this Thursday, March 7 — two months earlier than last year! The reason for this is that the District Science Fair this year will be March 26-28.
  • This year, the Science Fair is required for 5th grade students, but all students in grades 2-4 are also encouraged to participate and will earn extra credit for doing so. (Students in Pre-K through 1st grade can display a project, but the entry will not be judged.)
  • Students need to choose a topic for the science fair project and then share what they learn with the RH community by preparing a display board.
  • The process of developing a science fair project involves asking questions, making predictions, drawing conclusions and presenting findings. The experience of working through this process provides students with many rich opportunities for learning.
  • Students may participate individually or submit a group project (maximum group size = five students).
  • Teachers at each grade level are offering extra credit for participation.
  • The first-place winners from 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade will advance to the District Science Fair on March 26-28.
  • If you were unable to attend the recent workshop, please make arrangements to pick up a trifold poster board by following the instructions on the PTA website through the link below.
  • You can download detailed information, rubrics, project requirements and a student guide on our RHPTA website at http://www.rhpta.com/academic-fairs
