Message from Principal Cotton: Safety First! Follow Proper RH Carpool Drop-Off and Pick-Up Procedures

To ensure the safety of our students and their families, respect for our neighbors and an efficient carpool line, please follow the procedures below:

·     No parking on the school side of the street during drop-off or pick-up. Beyond the carpool lane is for daycare drop-off and pick-uponly.

·     Do not block driveways.

·     Do not use cell phones when in the carpool line.

·     Pull all the way forward when carpooling until directed by Safety Patrol to stop (even if it is past the front of the school).

·     Refer to the Student Handbook for any other carpool drop-off and pick-up procedures.

·     Drive safely!


Please also do not get into the carpool line for 3 p.m. dismissal until 2:30 p.m. We ask that you do this because we still have Pre-K dismissing at this time.

·     Please do not drop-off or pick-up in the staff’s parking lot unless you are needing handicapped parking for a student.

·     Important! Angus is a two-way street; please obey the traffic laws and do not cut in line to make it a one way. Not only is it a safety issue, we don’t want innocent students and parents possibly getting hit or injured due to someone driving the wrong way.

·     Please also refrain from driving down Cumberland from the end of Stonedale during the hours of 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. If you drive that way, it’s a traffic violation due to Cumberland being a one-way street during those hours. I have recently spoken to police officers and wanted to take the time to remind you of this information. They have witnessed traffic violations occurring and asked me to remind everyone to follow carpool procedures.

RH Carnival was a Fun, Festive Kick-Off to Fall!  
We had such a fun, festive fall Carnival at RH last Friday! HUGE thanks to Carnival Chair extraordinaire Lisa Bielss, her husband and kiddos along with our wonderful room parents, family volunteers, middle school and high school student volunteers, teachers, staff, students and families for making it such a special night!

RH Students Invited to 5th Annual Trunk or Treat at AHHS Presented by AHHS Student Council Tomorrow Night, Monday, Oct. 29!

As a part of the Arlington Heights Pyramid, RH students are invited to the 5th Annual Trunk or Treat from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. tomorrow, Monday, Oct. 29, at 4501 West Freeway in the AHHS staff parking lot on Ashland Street. 


Attention Parents of PPCD, Pre-K, Kindergarten, 1st Grade and 2nd Grade Students: Storybook Parade for PPCD, Pre-K, Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd Students Only on Wednesday, Oct. 31
The PPCD, Pre-K, Kindergarten, 1st grade and 2nd grade classes will have a Storybook Parade on Wednesday, Oct. 31, after the morning announcements. The parade will be on the RH track, weather permitting.

·      To help foster a love of quality literature, we are asking our PPCD, Pre-K, Kindergarten, 1st grade and 2nd grade students to participate in our Storybook Parade.

·     Please encourage your student to identify a character in one of his or her favorite books.

·     Your child may dress in such a way that will tell us about that character.

·     Your child should also bring the book to the parade.

·     Please read the book with your child the night before the parade so that he or she is able to tell us about the character.

·     Ideas for characters include Clifford from “Clifford, the Big Red Dog,” the mouse from “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie,” and a letter of the alphabet from “Chicka Chicka Boom Boom.” The “costume” should be simple. For example, Clifford could be portrayed with big red paper ears and a tail.

·     Please help your child chose a storybook character that is neither a superhero nor scary.

·     Your child will need to bring a change of clothes in accordance with our dress code to change into after the parade.

·     Parents are welcome to stay and watch our parade. Please sign in at the office.

RH’s 3rd Annual Mathoween Scheduled During School This Wednesday, Oct. 31 

·     This year’s Mathoween will take place during the school day this Wednesday, Oct. 31.  

·     Students will enjoy math activities within their grade level.

·     If you have not yet received a note from your child’s grade level, look for one to come home soon with information, including acceptable costumes. 

·     Parents who are interested in helping and/or have questions should contact their child’s teacher.

Reminder: Book Fair Runs This Week, Monday, Oct. 29 – Friday, Nov. 2

·     Our Book Fair will run from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29, through Friday, Nov. 2, in the library. 

·     All students will be visiting Book Fair with their class and have the opportunity to purchase books.

·     On Wednesday, Oct. 31, students who visit Book Fair with an adult family member and say “Trick or Treat” to Ms. Rick will receive a free ticket for a door prize!

·     We also invite you to help build classroom libraries by purchasing books and donating them to your child’s class.

·     Thank you for working with us in encouraging your children to read!

·     Our librarian, Ms. Rick, needs volunteers to set up, and assist students with book selection and checkout during Book Fair.

No Chess Club This Wednesday, Oct. 31

Please note there will not be Chess Club this Wednesday, Oct. 31. We will resume the following Wednesday, Nov. 7.

Live Thankfully Campaign Starts Soon; T-Shirt Orders Due This Friday, Nov. 2!
We are gearing up for another year of Live Thankfully at RH. You will hear more about our food drive soon. One of the ways we have always supported the program is to sell Live Thankfully T-shirts. The money made from T-shirt sales helps buy the main meal of ham and sides with dessert for those who need assistance at Thanksgiving. 

·     T-shirt order forms were sent home in student folders last week.

·     The shirts are purple and made of soft material and cost $15 each.

·     Please return your order form with payment (cash or check made out to RHPTA) to Ms. Blakley in Room #115 by this Friday, Nov. 2. 

·     We must receive all T-shirt orders by this Friday, Nov. 2. There will be NO exceptions. We will not be able to add orders later. We want to get the shirts in time for us to wear them prior to the end of our food drive.

Popcorn Friday This Friday, Nov. 2!
We’re having another Popcorn Friday this Friday, Nov. 2, and we need volunteers to make it happen!

Family Museum Night is from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. Tuesday, Nov. 6
Family Museum Night for RH at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 6. Admission is free. Students must be accompanied by an adult. All activities end promptly at 8 p.m. 

·     Bus transportation will be provided for families who request it. Buses will begin loading at 5:15 p.m. at the front entrance of RH and will depart from the school promptly at 5:30 p.m. Buses will return to RH at approximately 8:30 p.m.

·     If your family will be riding the bus, please complete and return the form that was sent home in folders last week to the school no later than this Thursday, Nov. 1.

·     Children under 5 years old are not permitted to ride the bus. Also, strollers are not permitted on the bus.


Reminder: Career Day Scheduled for Friday, Nov. 16

Career Day is a time for students to learn about different types of careers that exist in the world today. Our goal is to expose students to a wide variety of careers with the hope that their interest will be piqued in one or more of them. 


We Need Your Help!

·     RH Career Day will be held on Friday, Nov. 16. 

·     We would like to know what parents/volunteers will be available that day to present their career to our students. 

·     We also want you to think of friends/contacts you know who would be willing to share their time with us. Thank you for your help and cooperation!

·     Recently, a purple interest form was sent home in student folders. There are morning (8:30 a.m. – noon), afternoon (noon – 2:30 p.m.) and all-day shifts available. 

·     Please complete and return the purple form to Mrs. Matrail Rogers, School Counselor.

Holiday Assistance Fair By Appointment Only

·     The RHPTA Student Aid Committee helps organize events for our school community to give back to families who need a helping hand. 

·     The identity of the students and families participating will be kept confidential by using a code number through the counselor’s office; names will not be used. 

·     If you missed the Assistance Fair on Oct. 15 and need assistance, please contact Mrs. Matrail Rogers, School Counselor, to schedule an appointment.

·     What do families needing assistance need to bring to their appointments? (Criteria based on Salvation Army guidelines.)

Save the Date for Leap Frogs Reading Festival from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10, at TCU

·     RH has been invited to participate in the Leap Frogs Reading Festival from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 20, at the TCU Rec Center. 

·     This is in support of the FWISD initiative FWTX 100x25 – with the goal of 100% of FW 3rd graders reading on grade level by 2025.

·     There will be many stations, including face paint, games and a surprise visit from SuperFrog!

·     This goal of this event is to promote a love of reading. 

·     Students will have the opportunity to take home a new book to add to their personal library.
