Walkathon Update – Thursday, Oct. 6!

·      It's almost Walkathon time!

·      Tomorrow morning, drop off as normal, clearing all cars off Cumberland by 8:00 a.m. There is NO PARKING allowed on Cumberland.

·      If you need to leave quickly after Walkathon is done, the best parking would be on Angus (exiting back down Angus), Springhill (exiting Angus to leave the neighborhood) or Cumberland east of Stonedale.

·      Participating parents need to sign in. There will be tables outside the front doors.

·      After signing in, parents should remain outside and wait for the classes to be released outside. We need as many parents as possible to walk with our students and keep everyone safe! Younger siblings are welcome to attend – strollers are encouraged for little ones!

·      Students will start lining up outside at 8:15 a.m. to start walking at 8:30 a.m. It is usually over between 9:30 a.m. and 10 a.m.

·      Please refer to the attached map for the route.

·      We will have approximately 1,400 walkers! Please be patient with everyone.

·      The forecast is calling for rain in the early morning hours tomorrow with chances dropping dramatically around Walkathon start time at 8:30 a.m. In the case of lightning or thunderstorms at start time, we will have an alternate plan. We will not risk the safety of our students, teachers, staff, families and friends.

·      Grab a bottled water before you take off, courtesy of Frost Bank! Be sure and tell them thank you for the generous donation. Recycling bins will be available along the way to dispose of bottles.

·      Our walk will be made safe and secure by our Constable Jon Siegal and his officers, our Neighborhood FWPD Officer Allan Pennington, and our wonderful Neighborhood Code Blue volunteers. We also have many neighborhood volunteers along the way helping with intersections. Please thank these people when you see them. Our school is so blessed to have such wonderful community members as our partners!

·      T-Shirts: Please contact michellehenderson@sbcglobal.net, if you did not get a T-shirt or received the wrong size.

·      All leftover T-shirts will be for sale Walkathon morning for $10 each. Remaining spirit gear will also be for sale. We’re only able to accept cash and checks at this time.

·      All students are to wear their Walkathon T-shirts and appropriate length athletic shorts tomorrow. Bottoms should be no shorter than three inches above the knee.

·      Don't forget to make those donations! Bring checks/cash donations in an envelope with your student's name(s) and homeroom(s) clearly written. Online donations can be made at RHPTA. Donations will be accepted through Friday to be considered for prizes.

·      Congrats to Ms. Gillaspy’s Kindergarten class for being the top earners this Walkathon! They have raised over $5,000 so far! Ms. Gillaspy will be riding in one of our Park Place Mercedes convertibles tomorrow morning, and her class will be proudly carrying the banner behind her. Way to go, Mustangs!

·      Ms. Cotton, Ms. Starr and Marty the Mustang will join Ms. Gillaspy in riding in style thanks to our friends at Park Place Mercedes!

·      If you have questions about Walkathon, please contact michellehenderson@sbcglobal.net.
