Walkathon FAQ

What is Walkathon?

The Ridglea Hills Walkathon is our major fundraiser of the year.  Unlike some Walkathons, we are not collecting pledges for the number of loops that are walked.  Each child collects donations up-front for participating in the walk. All donations should be collected during our donation drive which is through Friday, October 3. Donation sheets and envelopes should be returned to school on Friday, October 3. On the day of Walkathon, all RH students will gather outside the school on Cumberland Road and begin walking the Walkathon route through the neighborhood.  PreK - 2nd will complete one 1.5 mile loop while 3rd-5th will complete two loops.
What are the goals?
We are aiming for 100% student participation. Each student has a goal to raise $75.  All donations will help us reach our goal!  We will use the money we raise to help fund specific needs for our school including the art and music programs, teacher training camps, classroom computers, extra school supplies for our classrooms, and more!

What about the prizes I'm hearing about?
The prizes will be awarded at an assembly on October 10, 2014 during school. The student that collects the most money overall will receive an amazing prize! Each grade level will have 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners, based on their overall collections. For every $25 dollars that you collect, you will be entered into a drawing.  One drawing will be held for grades PK-2nd and another drawing for 3rd – 5th grades.  Each week, the class/homeroom raising the most money will receive a special suprise just for their class!  The class that raises the most money overall will LEAD the walkathon, carrying the banner and their teacher will ride in style during the walkathon!  This is one of the most valued prizes of the entire event!
Why have a Walkathon?
There are many benefits of having a Walkathon over our traditional gift wrap fundraiser.
~ All of the proceeds raised go directly to the school!
~Celebrate our school and Ridglea Hills spirit!
~ Students get some exercise!
