Grandparent’s and Special Person’s Day Tomorrow, Monday, Sept. 10
Invite a grandparent or special person to eat lunch with your child in the cafeteria tomorrow, Monday, Sept. 10.

·     Guests are welcome to bring in lunch or purchase a lunch tray in the cafeteria.

·     Grandparents and Special Persons will receive a complimentary photo to commemorate this fun day!

·     Check with your child’s teacher to find out his/her class lunch time. (Click the following link view this year’s class lunch times as posted on the RHPTA website.)

·     Please allow up to 30 minutes for parking and check in.

·     Check-in tables will be set up outside.

·     Visitors must have an ID that they will present to staff at the check in table.

·     Visitors must be on the emergency card OR have a note from the parent stating the visitor may have lunch with the student.

·     Parents should make sure the grandparent/special person knows the student’s teacher’s name.

·     Visitors will remain outside until their student’s teacher’s name is called announcing that they may go inside.

·     Background checks are not required for this lunch.

·     Visitors are not allowed to go to the classroom before or after lunch.

Important Information from the Principal and Assistant Principal

Please read the following message from Mrs. Cotton and Mrs. Starr. 

·     As we continue to smooth out our routines, we love seeing our parents walking up to pick up their kiddos each day. 

·     We have also been seeing lots of dogs. We love animals, but we do ask that parents not walk dogs to pick up students. We have had incidents already this year, and this request is strictly for the safety of our students and staff. The noise and excitability of afternoon dismissal can cause the most mild-tempered dogs to become anxious. 

·     We will be sending home a note in order to reach out to all parents, but we ask that you help us spread the word. Thank you as always for your support!


Walkathon 2018

Walkathon is our premier fall event in which everyone participates–students, families, teachers, staff, RH neighbors and community members walk 1.5 miles through the neighborhood, and we are confident that YOU will want to “Saddle Up” with us once again to support our students. This year, Walkathon is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 5; we kicked off our Walkathon fundraising campaign last Friday morning.

·     Envelopes for Walkathon donations to be turned into your child’s teacher

·      Saturday, Sept. 15 (4 p.m. to 8 p.m.) – Chipotle RH Night – Percentage of proceeds benefit RH Walkathon

Calling All RH Parents!

Want to be more involved in your child’s school? Volunteering is a great way! We have many events throughout the year that need volunteers to be able to run smoothly. 

·     A form went home in student folders last week listing all of this year’s events needing volunteer help. 

·     Please check which events you would like to help our parents out with, and the event chair will contact you. 

·     You must have passed a background check to volunteer.

We Need Room Parents

One way to get involved in your child’s classroom is by helping his/her teacher with parties and special event days such as Walkathon, Carnival, Feast Day (kindergarten), Holiday Party, Valentine’s Party, Fine Arts Day, Field Day and End-of-Year Party.

Chess Club Starts Wednesday, Sept. 26, and Runs Through Wednesday, March 6

Chess Club for interested students in grades 2-5 will begin Wednesday, Sept. 26. 
Chess Club will meet weekly on Wednesday afternoons from 3:00 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. in Rooms 104, 109 and 110.

·     Information form, contract and T-shirt order form may be picked up in the office. They are also available on the RHPTA website under Student Activities/Chess Club or click the following link:

·     Completed and signed forms must be turned in by Monday, Sept. 24, for students to attend the first meeting – no exceptions. Please return to Mrs. Hixon in Room 109 or put in her mailbox in the office. 

·     Chess Club T-shirts are available to order for $10 each and may be worn on Wednesdays throughout the school year.

·     Students will have the opportunity to participate in chess tournaments, including the first one on Saturday, Oct. 20, at All Saints. Ridglea Hills will host our annual chess tournament on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2019, Chess Club members are encouraged to participate.

Saddle Up and Join the RHPTA This Year!

It’s time to join PTA! Our goal is to have a voice for every child so we would love to have every family join! 

·      Join parents, teachers and community members in improving educational and extracurricular opportunities for all of our Ridglea Hills Elementary students.

·      As a PTA member, you work on behalf of the children you represent by volunteering in the school, supporting the faculty and staff, and staying informed on issues regarding your children and their education.

·      New this year is the chance to buy an exclusive shirt! This shirt is only available with the purchase of a PTA membership. You may buy additional shirts after the purchase of your membership if you would like more than one.

·      Annual membership dues are $5 per member. Dues plus Membership T-shirt cost $13. Additional shirts may be purchased for $8 each. 

·      You can join and pay onlineanytime! Shirts are pre-order and will be delivered in a few weeks.

·      We warmly welcome our students’ parents, grandparents, family and friends to join RHPTA.

Background Check Required for All Volunteers

Cafeteria Volunteers Needed
We are in need of cafeteria volunteers. There are many shifts available.

·      Lunch is from 10:15 a.m. to 12:50 p.m.

·      This is especially helpful for our younger grades to assist them with opening packages, navigating the cafeteria, etc.

·      The older grades need help with noise control.

·      If you can spare time during lunchtime, please contact Wendy Magee, Cafeteria Volunteer Chair, to sign up. It is a great way to meet your children’s friends and teachers, and get a jump start on earning those volunteer hours.

·      To volunteer, you MUST have your FWISD background check approved beforehand.

Mustang Stampede is Back!
Mustang Stampede is back and ready to thrill your kids with a surprise appearance on their birthday or any special occasion! Your kids will wake up on their birthday or other special occasion to find their front yard "stampeded" with mustang signs displayed by 5th grade families.

·     Your $25 donation (which goes to support the 5th grade field trip) includes 12 mustang signs, two optional birthday signs, and a Ridglea Hills sign.

·     Reservations must be made at least a week in advance.

Reminder: AHHS Dance Clinic from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22

Interested students in grades K through 12 are invited to the AHHS Dance Clinic from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22, at AHHS. 

·     The cost is $30, if registered before Sept. 14, and $40, if registered after Sept. 14. 

·     There will be a parent performance at 2:30 p.m.

·     There will be an option to perform at “Cowtown Christmas.”

·     Participating students need to bring a lunch.
